Our Piet Oudolf Bird Border was planted in spring of 2023. It is a mixed species natural hedgerow, featuring woody plants selected for spring, summer and fall fruit to provide food and shelter for birds. With nine varieties of mostly-native small trees and shrubs, the Bird Border also provides protection and a beautiful backdrop to the Rain Garden at the west end of the property, along the parking area. Underplanted with perennials, the Bird Border attracts pollinators, and especially our feathered friends as Belle Isle and the Detroit River are key features along a major North American bird migration flyway.
